Attention!!! Do you know where to find the biggest “Rock City” in Europe? Where are the sandstone towers rising to seventy meters? Where can you explore narrow corridors in between the rocks for several days? Right, it´s in the Czech Republic. And it´s in the East Bohemia, close to the city of Broumov.

It might be difficult to estimate how large these rocks are. Only if you see it with a bird´s eye view, you can evaluate the spectacular size of this natural jewel. You can check it in the official video.

Actually, the rocks are divided into two separate parties – Adrspach Rocks and Teplice rocks. The seven kilometers long Wolf Ravine splits them. Adrspach Rocks are characteristic due to many separate sandstone slopes. The most famous are called “Mayor and his wife” and they are shown on the picture below. You can find here in Adrspach also two crystal clear turquoise lakes. Teplice Rocks are more “wild.” You can climb up to the ruins of the old castle or go to the canyon “Siberia”, where the temperature drops downs dramatically.

We recommend to book a whole day for this trip. You can do it on your own, or you can book the tour from Prague HERE. There might be a lot of tourists in the main season, but you will surely find lonely areas, especially in the Teplice Rocks. This fantastic piece of the landscape is Nature Reserve since 1933.

Drabske svetnicky – Bohemian Paradise

Bohemian Paradise is the Natural reserve spread on the area of more than 182 km2. It´s literally full of sandstone formation of the different characters. One of our favorite parts is Drabske Svetnicky close to the city of Mnichovo Hradiste in the Central Bohemia. You can spend here the whole day between the rocks, or you can just walk for thirty minutes from Muzsky village, and watch the sunset from the ruins of the old castle. There is no historical evidence, but according to the archeological discoveries, the castle existed between the 12th and the 15th century.

Today you can walk here through the rock staircases and rocks connected with the bridges. Once you sit in a silence of the stones at the top of one of them, you will understand, that this place is a real paradise.

Another amazing area of the Bohemian Paradise that deserves the attention of tourists are Prachov Rocks. This “sandstone city” lie close to the city of Jicin. This is the paradise not only for tourist, but for the climbers as well. There are three routes open to the public. One of them is adapted for the parents with prams. You will see from many natural viewpoints the whole Czech Paradise. Broad-leaved forests are the most beautiful in the autumn, but there are also many pine trees there. Four hours should be enough for you to pass all the stone staircases and narrow passageways.

Moravian Karst

While all the rocks we wrote about above are formed from the sandstone, Moravian Karst rocks are build up of the limestone. The area of the karst begins only several kilometers from the second biggest Czech city of Brno. This landscape is famous due to the many caves, five of which are open to the public. Many kilometers of the caves have been already explored, but there are still many that waits for the first presence of the humans. We can only guess what beauty is below the white rocks of the Moravian Karst.

People lived in the caves already thousands of years ago. Therefore many skeletons of wild animals and people were found during the exploration of the underground. Also, historical paintings inside the caves are another proof of the life in the ancient times. If you are climbers, this is another amazing landscape where you can enjoy this great sport.
