Things to do in Czech Republic JANUARY 2019
Christmas and New Year celebrations are over. Would you say that January is a weak month regarding the events and activities? Maybe somewhere else, but definitely not in Prague and the Czech Republic.
Get the inspiration what to do in the Czech Republic in January 2019. We will find something for each one of you. Do you want to see the best movies? Would you like enjoy good concerts? What about the exhibitions of the photos or paintings? No problem. Something to eat? January is a special month for gourmands in the Czech Republic. Or would you rather move a little bit? THREE WISE MEN PARADE – PRAGUE 1 (CENTER) – 06.01.2019 – 2 PM – 5 PM
Everybody knows three wise men, who visited small Jesus Christ after his birth in Bethlehem, bearing him the gifts. The parade of those three kings will start on Prague Lesser Town Square on Sunday 6th of January. The musicians will accompany three kings on the camels. The parade will go through the most beautiful parts of Prague through the Charles Bridge, Charles Street to the Old Town Square. There will be a „live Christmas Crib“ on the square, and the celebration will continue with the several concerts.
As every year, you will have a chance to give your donations to support the children from the asylums. You can also bring the gifts for children and put them to the organizers close to the stage. You can be sure, that your donations will find a way to those in need.
PRAGUE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL – SVETOZOR CINEMA, PRAGUE – 23.01 – 27.01.2019
The 14th season of the festival will provide the best short films from all over the world. This occasion will take place in several cinemas in the center of Prague. Visit cinemas Svetozor, and Kino Pilotu. All the movies are available with Czech and English subtitles. You can select from four different sections. Amazona will show the films from South America. La Quinzaine 50 is represented by the movies, that were presented last year during Cannes movie festival. „From Gabriel, with love“ is a short retrospective of the movies by Portuguese director Gabriel Abrantes. And the festival doesn´t forget even the children. Pragueshorts for kids are here for the youngest audience.

LETNA PIG SLAUGHTERING – NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AGRICULTURE, LETNA, PRAGUE – 26.01.2019 – 10 AM – 5 PM
January and February are traditionally the months of the „pig slaughters.“ Czechs are gourmands loving the pork meat. The pig slaughter are typically done within the families in the villages. But you don´t have to miss such an opportunity even if you are in the city. One of them will happen on Saturday 26th of January in front of the National Museum of Agriculture at Letna, Prague. Come to taste the best Czech pork delicacies. Brawn, white or black pudding, sausages, goulash, pork knee, ribs, and many other tidbits will be prepared on the place. You can also see the workshops of the butchers and learn the traditional procedures how to make the port specialties. And don´t forget to taste one or two cold and bitter Czech beers.
PIG SLAUGHTERING PLZEN – DEPO MARKET HALL, PLZEN – 27.01.2019
A similar event as in Prague will happen one day later also in the city of Plzen. Come to the marketplace Depo. The festival will also offer the presentation of Czech „mini breweries“.
OUTDOOR SKATING – PRAGUE – WHOLE JANUARY
You can come to skate to the stadiums, but during the winter, you can also use the opportunities to skate outside. The lakes are not frozen yet like on the picture below?
Don´t worry. There are planty outdoor skating rings in the cities. If you don´t have your skates with you, you can borrow them on the place. The biggest outdoor skating rings in Prague are the next ones.
TRIP ON THE SNOWSHOES – DOLNI MORAVA, NORTH MORAVIA – EACH FRIDAY 04.01. – 01.03.2019
You can organize your journey on the snowshoe’s yourselves for sure. But if you don´t know where to go, you have two options. Either ask us for the advice, and we will plan the trip for you. Or you can join the guided tour. If you are skiing in the North Moravia, you can do so at Dolni Morava. You can join the track with the guide at the village of Dolni Morava. Then you will go to the top of the hill Slamnik above the village and even above the Sky. You will visit the Skywalk, and you will have a dinner and drink as well. The tours start each Friday at 4:30 pm at the info center Marcelka. You only have to make the registration in advance on the day of the trip before 4 pm at info center.
This month, we would like to highlight two very interesting concerts of two very interesting independant interprets. If you are lovers of alternative music, you shouldn´t miss them for sure.

Czech Press Photo is the contest presenting the best Czech and Slovak images. You still have a chance to see the best Czech photos from 2018 during the whole month of January. Czech photography was very successful in the past, and I am sure, that the current photographers are also on the high level. Just come to make yourselves sure of it. PABLO PICCASSO – PASSION AND GUILT – KAMPA MUSEUM – 15.09.2018 – 15.01.2019
The last chance for the fans of this Spanish painter genius. Vollard Suite is a set of more than 100 etching by Mr. Piccasso. Each image is different, each image shows the huge talent and invention.
